Baldovin Ballet Zagreb is proud to announce Master Ballet Education – Summer Intensive 2022 first edition, that will take place from 1 to 9 July 2022. The event will gather top international and national ballet stars and choreographers to offer various compelling educational programs. The MBE program , designed by top ballet artists and connoisseurs, is suitable for professional ballet dancers or recreational dancers with advanced or intermediate skills in classical, modern or contemporary dance.. Together with our Croatian and international guests from USA, Austria and Slovenia, we will offer participants the opportunity to participate in top dance educational programs and workshops of classical, neoclassical, character and modern ballet and contemporary dance. In this way, they will get the opportunity to expand their artistic experience and knowledge. Master Ballet Education comprises 7 days of intensive training and workshops at the ZPC (Zagreb Dance Center), one day of presentation and educational programs, auditions for the American Ballet Academy Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet and stage presentations. About Us Baldovin Ballet Zagreb was founded in 2020 by George Alexandru Baldovin and Iva Vrgoč. George Alexandru Baldovin ,is a former ballet dancer in HNK Zagreb, SNG Maribor, European Ballet London, Opera House Bucharest, Opera House Iasi and Opera House Constanta. In the course of his career, G. A. Baldovin had the opportunity to work with the worldwide highest ranked choreographers like Vladimir Malakhov, Nacho Duato, Irek Mukhamedov, Edward Clug, Patrice Bart, Youri Vámos, Leo Mujić, Patrice Bart, Victor Litvinov, Derek Dean, Hans Van Mannen, Milko Šparemblek, Lorca Massine, Joyce Cuoco, Vladimir Derevianko, Pascal Touzeau, Paul Boos (George Balanchine Trust). George Alexandru Baldovin George Baldovin was born in Iasi, Romania, to a family of artists. With the help of his brother, Jul Baldovin, he was introduced into world of music. He started to play guitar-vocal in a variety of genres, including pop,folk,country,blues,j azz. At the age of 12 he began ballet school "Octav Bancila" Iasi while still continuing with his music. He and his brother started a band called"Baldwin Brothers”. Their band won awards and concerts in Romania and abroad . George began his professional career as a ballet dancer at early age, first in Opera House Iasi and Opera House Constanta. Soon after he joined the Opera House Maribor-Slovenia, under direction of Eduard Clug, In 2007 he moved to London to join European Ballet London. He performed with HNK Zagreb first in 2008 and then again in 2010, where he stayed for almost ten years. Throughout his ballet career he performed demi-soloist and soloist roles in all the major classical ballets as well as in modern ballets. In parallel with his ballet career, he composed instrumental-electronic music for modern and contemporary ballets, for media, and has collaborated with different musical artists. Short Ballet Terminology and Meanings • Plié. This movement involves dancers bending their knees and straightening them again, with the heels firm on the ground and feet turned right out. • Ballon Meaning ‘to bounce’, it refers to ease and lightness in jumps, describing their quality instead of height. • Ėpaulement. Simply put, an épaulement is a pose in which ballet dancers stand at an angle to their audience. Translated as ‘shouldering’, it refers to the position of the shoulders to the body’s lower half. • Port de bras. ‘Movement of the arms’, involving how dancers move their arms between positions. • En dehors.Translated to ‘outward’, en dehors are added to other ballet steps. They describe the direction that steps should move in. a pirouette en dehors simply means that ballet dancers need to turn in an outwards position, away from their supporting leg. • Pirouettes. In ballet, pirouettes are spins dancers make when they turn around one of their legs and the other is off the ground and in a position. • Pointe.Dancing on the tips of the toes, used in both classical and contemporary ballet. • Developpé. ‘To develop’ or ‘developing movement’, a developpé involves a working leg being drawn up to the knee of the leg supporting the dancer,and then extended to an open position. • A le seconde.Often means that the ballet position, usually classical ballet, needs to be done with the feet placed in the second position or a step should be done ‘to the side’. • En bas.Translated to ‘low’, when the arms need to be in a low position.

Modern Ballet Modern ballet is genre of dance which developed in the early 20th century as a new way of expression, a more free and natural one, as opposed to the traditional, highly technical classical ballet. Being focused on spontaneity and self expression, the classes can develop your creative thinking by allowing you to have more freedom in the movement and to obtain better physical and emotional awareness. This class might contain classical ballet vocabulary combined with different elements and it can be more accessible for dancers without many restrictions in choreography or improvisation. Character Dance Character dance is known as a sub-division of classical ballet with origins in folk dance from different regions and countries in the world. These countries: Spain, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, have a strong presence in classical ballet performance. Character dance is very stylish and fun, usually incorporated as a part of classical ballet, preserving the character and the uniqueness of a certain region, country or culture providing a support for a classical ballet story. Why should I become a recreational ballet student? Adult ballet offers numerous benefits for body and mind: improves flexibility, improves the body posture and alignment, strengthens the muscles, increases stamina and coordination, builds self-confidence, improves concentration, and reduces mental tension All of these benefit a greater quality of life. Children Ballet For how long do the ballet classes last? Recreational classical ballet for children lasts for 60 minutes (one hour). Can I take photos or video? Yes you can but for personal use only. For any online distribution you must require our approval. Can I watch my child in class? Yes, you can, after consultation with the teacher. We recommend as few visits in class as possible as it will be easier for your child to maintain the required concentration. What should I bring to class for my child? Dance shoes, leotard, tights or sweatpants and t-shirt, a bottle of water or or any other preferred refreshments. Visit our recommended dress code and conduct page. How my child can become a recreational ballet student? You can register online, or contact us via email or phone or visit us at the studio in Mesnička 5 and we will find the best way that suits you and your child so that he/she can start the ballet lessons as soon as possible. How can I bring and collect my child safely? Please make sure to arrive at the studio with your child at least 15 minutes before class. The teacher will wait for them at the studio. Be at the studio with a minimum of 10 minutes before the end of the class. How many children can be in a group? Baldovin Ballet Zagreb focuses on middle size groups as every student deserves a chance to get more attention and corrections from the teacher. You don't need any previous experience.The best way to start is by joining the classical ballet beginners programs or if you want a more efficient way, you can start with private classes. Is my age right for ballet? Our programs are made for everyone who meet the age requirement of 5 years old so we believe that you can find a program that suits you. Are ballet classes available for men? Ballet isn't just for women. We encourage men to benefit from recreational ballet as well. How many classes do you advise me to take per week? You can choose any number of classes per week, although we recommend a minimum of 2-3 a week, depending on an individual in order to learn the language through regular training. Can I have a free trial class or come to visit during a training? Yes, Baldovin Ballet Zagreb offers one complementary trail ballet class for anybody who is interested in our programs. For how long do the ballet classes last? Classical ballet classes can last between 75 and 90 minutes depending on the number of students. All the other programs in our studio last for 60 minutes. What should I wear? Students may wear what makes them move freely like form-fitting athletic wear but we recommend the traditional leotard and tights/leggings or sweatpants and t-shirt at your choice and ballet shoes. Visit our recommended dress code and conduct page. What else should I bring to class? We also recommend some backup clothes in case of excessive sweating, a towel, a bottle of water or or any other preferred refreshments. How many students can be in a group? Entrance to the studio won't be possible from outside without permission from the staff. Are there showers? Yes, we provide one (1) shower cabin. Is the building safe to be in? Our building is safe and has a green label after the Zagreb earthquake of 22 March 2020. Do you provide WiFi? Yes, we do provide WiFi internet. Is the public transportation close? Yes, we have public transportation close to studio (1 minute walk ) towards all the main directions in Zagreb. Do you provide a private parking? We don't provide private parking, but there are 3 city parking garages very close to the studio (1 minute).
