  • Short Terminology | Baldovin Ballet

    Short Ballet Terminology and Meanings • Plié. This movement involves dancers bending their knees and straightening them again, with the heels firm on the ground and feet turned right out. • Ballon Meaning ‘to bounce’, it refers to ease and lightness in jumps, describing their quality instead of height. • Ėpaulement. Simply put, an épaulement is a pose in which ballet dancers stand at an angle to their audience. Translated as ‘shouldering’, it refers to the position of the shoulders to the body’s lower half. • Port de bras. ‘Movement of the arms’, involving how dancers move their arms between positions. • En dehors.Translated to ‘outward’, en dehors are added to other ballet steps. They describe the direction that steps should move in. a pirouette en dehors simply means that ballet dancers need to turn in an outwards position, away from their supporting leg. • Pirouettes. In ballet, pirouettes are spins dancers make when they turn around one of their legs and the other is off the ground and in a position. • Pointe.Dancing on the tips of the toes, used in both classical and contemporary ballet. • Developpé. ‘To develop’ or ‘developing movement’, a developpé involves a working leg being drawn up to the knee of the leg supporting the dancer,and then extended to an open position. • A le seconde.Often means that the ballet position, usually classical ballet, needs to be done with the feet placed in the second position or a step should be done ‘to the side’. • En bas.Translated to ‘low’, when the arms need to be in a low position.

    Modern Ballet Modern ballet is genre of dance which developed in the early 20th century as a new way of expression, a more free and natural one, as opposed to the traditional, highly technical classical ballet. Being focused on spontaneity and self expression, the classes can develop your creative thinking by allowing you to have more freedom in the movement and to obtain better physical and emotional awareness. This class might contain classical ballet vocabulary combined with different elements and it can be more accessible for dancers without many restrictions in choreography or improvisation.     Power Ballet Power ballet program is a workout combining several body training disciplines, including ballet, fitness, pilates, yoga and aerobic, specially designed to train the muscle memory while focusing on core strength, flexibility, posture, endurance and correct weight placement. By developing better dynamics of the body and uniformed, lean muscles, the programs prepares you to execute the ballet class or any other programs in more efficient and correct way which is essential to get positive and maximum results. We recommend that you combine Power Ballet workouts with your regular ballet classes. The program is created by Eugen Dobrescu.   • Lucija Kukor | Baldovin Ballet

    Lucija Kukor Lucija Kukor, born in Zagreb on June 15, 1990. She started her dance journey at the age of 9 in the dance club "Megablast" (Velika Gorica). She soon enrolled in primary and then secondary dance school Franjo Lučić, Velika Gorica. In the dance school she had classes in ballet, contemporary dance techniques, rhythmics, step dance, folklore, jazz, anatomy, solfeggio, piano, methodology, vocal techniques and stage practice, which last year ended with the play "Interval" (choreographers Masa Kolar and Zoran Markovic ). She participated in various competitions with the dance club “Megablast” and with the dance school, at the national and world level. After graduating from dance school, she was invited to Zagreb theater “Komedija”. She also enrolls at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb and, in parallel with Zagreb theater “Komedija”, realizes various collaborations and projects. Lucija also makes various commercial appearances on television, concerts, commercials and videos. In addition to dancing, she has a great passion for singing and she performed at the „Vip Club“ under the leadership of Lela Kaplowitz and at the Brass Velika Gorica Jazz Festival independently and with the band „Cubismo“. Also, in parallel, she continuously invested in her dance knowledge through various seminars and workshops both in Croatia and abroad. In the meantime, she earned MA in the field of „Management“ at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb. 2019. she went to Israel in order to participate in dance program under Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company “Dance Journey program”. In addition to the repertoire of the company, program included classes like ballet, pilates, floor work, gaga movement and guest teachers. Following her progress and noticing her uniqueness, Rami Be’er, the artistic director of the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, invites Lucija to join the main company as an intern. In 2020. Lucija goes to Israel again, and joins the KCDC as an intern.   • Dress Code | Baldovin Ballet

    Dress code Dress code is not mandatory but recommended by Baldovin Ballet Zagreb. It is important for children (and adults) because it connects the students to the atmosphere of the class and makes them comfortable, and a part of the training session. Ballet shoes (no alternative) You can wear socks in the first few classes as a beginner but once we advance, the socks must be replaced with ballet shoes. Socks can may make you slip and cause injury. Ballet shoes will help you feel the exercises better and are a sign of respect towards the ballet class and the ballet teacher. Students may wear what makes them move freely, like form-fitting athletic wear, but we recommend the traditional leotard and tights/leggings or sweatpants and t-shirt.   • George Alexandru Baldovin | Baldovin Ballet

    George Alexandru Baldovin George Baldovin was born in Iasi, Romania, to a family of artists. With the help of his brother, Jul Baldovin, he was introduced into world of music. He started to play guitar-vocal in a variety of genres, including pop,folk,country,blues, jazz. At the age of 12 he joins the Art Academy-Ballet "Octav Bancila" Iasi while still continuing with music. He and his brother started a band called "Baldwin Brothers” which won many awards and had concerts in Romania and abroad . George began his professional career as a ballet dancer at early age, first in Opera House Iasi and Opera House Constanta. Soon after he joined the Opera House Maribor-Slovenia, under direction of Eduard Clug, In 2007 he moved to London to join European Ballet London. He performed with HNK Zagreb first in 2008 and then again in 2010, where he stayed for almost ten years. Throughout his ballet career he performed demi-soloist and soloist roles in all the major classical ballets as well as in modern ballets. In parallel with his ballet career, he composed instrumental-electronic music for modern and contemporary ballets, for media, and has collaborated with different music artists.
